Traditional Scones



Spelt flour is a flour with a variety of nutrients such as iron and copper therefore, a great aid for circulation. It also has Calcium and phosphorus essential minerals that strengthen the bones, as well as being a much more digestible flour compared to wheat.

A perfect guilt free treat for the family, very easy to make and each one can be personalised to meet each and every one's taste through toppings and fillings. Traditional Scones

40-50mins Makes 5 Easy


Ingredients

190g spelt flour

4 1/2 tablespoons maple syrup

1 teaspoon aluminum free baking soda

1/8 teaspoon Pink Himalayan salt

5 tablespoon Vitalite butter (you can use any plate based butter, or coconut oil if you would prefer)







Instructions


  1. Preheat your oven to 180 degrees Celsius or 350 degrees Fahrenheit

  2. Make sure to wash your hands

  3. Pour your flour into a mixing bowl

  4. Then add the salt and baking soda to the mixing bowl with flour in and combine all dry ingredients together

  5. After that add in the plant based butter

  6. Then you are going to rub the butter into the flour with your fingertips , until it resembles fine breadcrumbs

  7. Pour in the maple syrup and mix all the ingredients together with your hands

  8. It should then resembles a dough consistency, form into a ball and place on your work top to be rolled out with flour

  9. Roll out your dough but make sure that it isn't thin as they are scones, so the dough needs to be quite thick

  10. Cut out approximately five scones and place them onto the baking tray with parchment paper underneath

  11. Put in the oven to cook for about 15-20mins

  12. Leave to cool

  13. Don't forget to add your favorite toppings/fillings e.g. jam and coconut cream (recopies for this can be found in the book - Michaela's Plant Bakes - link found below)
